Matthew's reflection

Reflection: MEMBER 01 says..

Pre-camp reflections

Read the introduction, objectives and theoretical background to the project and then answer the following questions:
  •      What interests you about this project?
  •       What do you want to learn by doing this project?
  •       What questions do you have about this project?
  •      What do you personally want to have achieved by the end of this project?

Reflections on Plenary Sessions

For each plenary session, consolidate your learning by answering the following questions:
  •     What are your key learning points?
  •      What new questions do you have about the topic?

Reflections on Applied Project Challenge: Your Accomplishments
  • Discuss how the project has deepened your understanding and broadened your awareness of the selected discipline.
  • What do you now understand about this discipline that you were unaware of at the beginning?
  • Describe how what you have learned from doing this project can be connected to what you are learning at school.
  • Describe how you can apply what you have learned from doing this project.
  •  At the end of the project, what new questions do you now have?

  1. Pre-camp reflections

Read the introduction, objectives and theoretical background to the project and then answer the following questions:
What interests you about this project?
This project is about extracting caffeine from coffee, which is very interesting and something I had yet to do
What do you want to learn by doing this project?
I hope to learn more about physics,as this is what the project is about
What questions do you have about this project?
How this project will benefit the society and who will benefit from it
What do you personally want to have achieved by the end of this project?
I hope to gain new knowledge about this project and physics

  2. Reflections on Plenary Sessions

For each plenary session, consolidate your learning by answering the following questions:
What are your key learning points?
What new questions do you have about the topic?

    1. I learnt more about earthquakes and how earthquakes cause tsunamis to occur, and about the sinking of the islands when subduction is occurring, which causes earthquakes when it is put on too much pressure.I also learnt how to measure when a tsunami occurred and how to find out,and how to predict when an earthquake is going to happen through GPS and coral reefs.I want to know if the same thing can be done for other countries besides Sumatra .

    2. I learnt about 2D animation and 3D animation, and how to make 2D and 3D cartoons/movies/games,and the advantages and disadvantages of 2D and 3D animations.I also learnt more about the progression of the process of making 2D and 3D animations throughout the years.I would like to know if the labour needed in 2D animation can be shortened through technology

    3. I learnt how people have learnt to implement nanotechnology into daily items to improve them and make them better, and also in military purposes(eg: bulletproof coating of tanks and stealth bombers),and also in everyday items(eg: tint changing contact lenses and invisible bracers).I also learnt about the history of nanotechnology and how small it is,and how people who work with nanotechnology are able to work with it with the help of computers and technology.I would like to know if nanotechnology can be implemented in weapons so that they can e more effective.

    1. It has taught me how to be patient when doing experiments, and to follow instructions when doing experiments so that the experiment will not fail and that it will succeed.I also learnt to co-operate with my group mates in order to conduct the experiment smoothly and without any problems,so that we will have a chance to win the competition.

    2. I learnt more about co-operation and that it is actually quite useful when doing things that require more than one person. Before the camp,I did not find co-operating useful as I had quite a number of bad experiences with it and I would rather work alone than do something with other people,as I did not really work well in a group,as i felt that a group is just a magnet for trouble if the group did not co-operate well.

    3. i can use what I had learned in the fastest ball challenge(3A) and apply it to physics in school so that I can understand things better as physics is hard to understand for me.I can also use the things I had learned in group work and apply it to group work in school so that i can understand how to co-operate with other people

    4. I can use the things I have learned in this camp to apply it when i go looking for work when i am older,so that i can have a better understanding of physics and hence,a wider range of choices when looking for a job.I can also be able to co-operate with my colleagues when doing group work.

    5. I hope to find out more about how the challenges can be applies in the world to help people, and how physics can help people also want to find out more about physics, and its benefits, advantages and disadvantages.Furthermore,I would want to know how to apply what I have learnt and will learn into my life, and if possible, other people’s lives.

    6. I hope to be able to be a scientist as science is a very interesting subject for me and I really like doing hand to hand experiments like the ones that I have done in the camp in the near future.
